People with helminths have modulated immune responses characterized by decreased production of IFNg and diminished delayed-type hypersensitivity responses. This alteration in the immune response occurs through induction of regulatory cytokines such as IL4, IL10, and TGF Helminths also alter immune responses in animal experiments showing that this is a general feature of these organisms.
